casino gran madrid colonEverybody knows that the Eurovegas project, that large gambling theme park that was going to be built on the outskirts of Alcorcón, broke down. Perhaps to replace that void, or forecasting a fever for gambling in Madrid, the emblematic Casino of Torrelodones has opened a new casino in the heart of the city, at number 34 of Paseo de Recoletos, in front of Plaza de Colón.

Part of the Gran Casino Madrid brand, it is the first one that, as such, has opened its doors in Madrid for 90 years, under the architectonic direction of Rafael de la Hoz, responsible for the Gran Vía 48 building among others, the first building built on that avenue in the 21st century.

Throughout its four floors, there are different gaming and hospitality areas, such as the Columbus restaurant, managed by the Coque company, whose restaurant in Humanes has a Michelin star. The interior of the space is striking due to its daring and impossible geometric shapes in an elegant and warm atmosphere.

As well as the usual fruit machines, the gambler can play some poker, roulette, blackjack, and baccarat among others. All of this with the best materials, exclusively designed for this casino, with up to 55 giant integrated TV screens.

The opening times are long in the fruit-machine area: daily from 11.00am until 6.00am and from 4.00pm until 6.00am for players on tables. Entry costs 6 euros and there are weekly tickets for 30 euros. And for those who enjoy gambling without leaving the house, there is an online mode where you can play roulette, for example, with a simple register on the site.

Enjoy the game but with moderation, unless you want to finish like the protagonist of Dostoyevsky’s The Gambler, Alexei Ivanovich.

Gran Casino Madrid – Colón is located barely a 20-minute walk away from our hotel in the centre of Madrid, a pleasant stroll down Calle de Alcalá and Paseo de Recoletos, enjoying some of the city’s most emblematic sites on the way.
