burger hot dog madridThe hot dog has always been in the shadows of the hamburger. Let’s dedicate it a few privileged paragraphs and a few recommendations to make amends for that small injustice. One of them is Feltman’s Hot Dogs (Calle Sevilla, 2 – very close to our hotel in central Madrid), which they say serves the authentic hot dog, with German sausage smoked in especially selected beech tree wood and daily homemade buns that are served hot.

It is a care for details and elaboration that translates into what they call gourmet hot dog. They also make outstanding cakes and the sauces that they complement the hot dogs with. Prices are affordable. Also write down Estocolmo (Calle de la Palma, 72) or Perrito Faldero (Calle San Lorenzo, 9(, where they serve giant hot dogs with special touches, such as their curry ketchup, in a cosy and modern atmosphere in the heart of Malasaña.

And now we move onto hamburgers, always with the American diner aesthetics reminiscent of the 50s. One of them is Home Burger, which you can find at different locations (Calle Espiritu Santo, 12; Calle Silva, 25; Calle San Marcos, 25; or Paseo de la Castellana, 210). Here you can try their abundant hamburgers with daring and spicy flavours in a hipster-like atmosphere, made with ecological meat and with options for vegans so they can enjoy it too. Prices range from 15 to 20 euros per person.

Also of a classic diner aesthetic is Peggy Sue’s, in all of its different restaurants spread around Madrid, serving delicious hamburgers and hot dogs, as are those from Tommy Mel’s, which is growing in numbers in the Spanish capital, added to those on Calle Hortaleza, 34 or Gran Vía, 53. You will feel like in a James Dean movie with traditional American decoration, sauces on the table and waitresses with skirts. You will also struggle to choose from the delicious selection of food.

And in the heart of the Salamanca district (Calle Alcalá, 105), more American-style burgers at Bentley’s Burger, with different sizes of burgers that will suit big and small eaters. It is a pleasant yet somewhat cramped restaurant that serves, according to its clients, the best hamburgers in Madrid.
